Handmolding FRP

FRPはプラスチックの一種であるが、工業機械を用いずに人の手で扱い、成型することができる。張り子のようにガラス繊維を貼り付けていくその工法は、いわゆるプラスチックの持つ大量生産的なイメージとは異なる、ある種クラフト的なアプローチであると言える。

脱プラスチックが叫ばれる昨今だが、それは私たち作り手がプラスチックの加工性、コストパフォーマンスのみに執着した結果である。

​クラフト的なアプローチによって素材と向き合うことで、素材の特性と価値を再認識することができる。そしてその痕跡はムラや歪みとなって現れ、見る人にとっても物の在り方を再考する機会になると考えた。

We can mold FRP by hand, though this material is a kind of plastics. The process of hand molding FRP, layng fiber-glasses and applying resin by rollers is similar to one of papier-mache. It's like a craftwork and different from the impression of mass production of plastics

Today, plastic-free has been advocated and the blame is that we maker depend on plastic's workability and cheapness. Handmaking something from plastics makes us reconfirm the features and the worth of them. Beside, what we made has trace of our handmaking and makes people who take it reconfirm how things should be.
